Script to Screen
Netflix came to us to create a four-part series that dynamically shows how films and TV shows get made. It lived on their Grow Creative hub, a place where budding filmmakers can learn about the craft.
How does a show get green lit? Who does the AD report to? What's a grip? We broke down the entire film-making process into four ten minute episodes that mixed fun, easy-to-follow graphics with a dynamic edit.
We poured through hundred of Netflix TV shows, movies and behind the scenes content pull together clips that spoke to each part of the movie-making process. This grounded the section in familiar IP and helped explain new concepts.
We crafted a dynamic intro for each episode, using bold, school book inspired graphics and popular Netflix shows to set the stage for each video.
Animated title cards were chapter markers for this visual textbook, helping viewers stay clear on how each part of the process fit together.
The production hierarchy is an incredibly important yet thorny concept. We it broke it down using simple family-tree graphics, making it easy to understand who's who on a busy set.
The post-process frequently gets short shrift compared to production so we made sure to give it plenty of screen time.
Shows like "Squid Games" wouldn't be huge hits without a key part of the filmmaking process: localization. It's a technical but necessary part of sharing content globally. We broke down this process with easy to understand graphics.
Our goal was to inform and inspire future filmmakers across the globe so we adapted each episode into fourteen languages. The series played at Netflix Grow Creative festivals across around the world as well on the Grow Creative Hub.
We wrapped up the series with a script breakdown of the opening scene in "Stranger Things", showing how each beat of the script came to life on film.
